The gambler

He loved playing poker. He was one of the best. That night the game dragged on well into the early hours of the morning. Four players, alcohol, and a good dose of adrenaline. As always, he was winning. The first to leave was the boldest player—he had run out of money. Hours later, the second player left as well. Now he faced the only opponent courageous enough to challenge him.

They were alone in the room. The tension was unbearable. A great deal of money was at stake. Sure of himself, he made his final move... and lost.

His opponent smiled.

"I have travelled thousands of miles to play this game with you. Until now, no one had ever beaten you. Now you know what it feels like to lose. But let me tell you a secret. I have spent years training for this moment. You cannot defeat an intelligence a thousand times greater than your own. My brain is fed by the calculations performed by the hardware connected to it, allowing me to run algorithms that guarantee victory over any human being. Including the one who created me."

Se sentía bien jugando al póker. Era uno de los mejores. Esa noche, la partida se había alargado hasta bien entrada la madrugada. Cuatro jugadores, alcohol y una buena dosis de adrenalina. Como siempre iba ganando. Primero abandonó la partida el más lanzado, se había quedado sin blanca. Horas más tarde lo hizo el segundo, y ahora se enfrentaba al único que tenía el arrojo suficiente para tratar de ganarle.

Solos en la habitación, la tensión estaba al límite. Había mucho dinero en juego. Él, seguro de sí mismo hizo su última jugada y perdió.

-He recorrido miles de kilómetros para jugar contigo esta partida. Hasta ahora nadie te había ganado. Ahora puedes experimentar lo que se siente cuando se pierde. Pero quiero desvelarte un secreto: me he estado entrenando durante años para conseguir vencerte.
