Temper
That winter
was very hard. The great snow dunes of the Arctic had destroyed all the crops
despite having protected them very carefully. In addition, on Mars, in the area
where the company had invested a great deal of money, a meteorite had fallen
and destroyed hundreds of hectares of crops.
The feeding
of many people depended on those crops, as well as the elaboration of
medicines, some of which were essential for patients of Rowland's diseases,
-the name of the first man to set foot on Mars. On his return he suffered a
series of disorders which eventually led to his death.
She always
showed determination in the face of problems. She was a woman of great temper, and this time she was not going to give up either. There was the
remote possibility of finding reserves in Xona, a planet of the so-called
neighboring stars, populated by a hybrid race, the Esgas, crossing of humans
and extraterrestrials, with whom there was no relationship whatsoever.
She
prepared her ship and headed for Xona. She was received by an escort of
surveillance ships that led her to Lorden, the Supreme Lord of Esgas. When he
presented his request to the supreme, he had not imagined the price that the
supreme was going to ask her in exchange of to lend him all those provisions.
Lorden told her that she should be submitted to an insemination to improve the
genetics of his race... and her descendant or descendants should remain with
him.
Carácter
Aquel invierno fue muy duro. Las grandes dunas de nieve del
Ártico habían acabado con todas las cosechas a pesar de haberlas protegido con
mucho cuidado. A eso había que añadir que en Marte, en la zona en la que la
empresa había invertido una gran cantidad de dinero, había caído un meteorito y
destrozado cientos de hectáreas de cultivo.
La alimentación de muchas personas dependía de aquellos
cultivos, así como la elaboración de medicamentos, algunos imprescindibles para
los pacientes de las enfermedades de Rowland, llamadas así por el primer hombre
que pisó Marte. A su regreso padeció una serie de trastornos que al final
ocasionaron su muerte.
Siempre mostró determinación frente a los problemas. Era una
mujer con un gran carácter y esta vez tampoco iba a darse por vencida. Existía la
remota posibilidad de encontrar reservas en Xona, un planeta de las llamadas
estrella vecinas, poblado por una raza híbrida, los Esgas, cruce de humanos y
extraterrestres, con los que no existía ningún tipo de relación.
Preparó su nave y se dirigió a Xona. Fue recibida por una
escolta de naves de vigilancia que la condujeron ante Lorden, el Supremo Señor
de los Esgas. Cuando expuso su petición al supremo no había imaginado el precio
que éste le iba a pedir por prestarle todos aquellos víveres. Lorden le dijo
que debía someterse a una inseminación para mejorar la genética de su raza... y
que su descendiente o descendientes debían permanecer con él.
