Inanimate Beings
He had discovered it by chance.
In his research with animals, one morning in the laboratory, he noticed that a substance he had developed to test its effect on the cure of Roemer's disease changed colour to a crimson tone when he approached the cage in which he had the mice he was using in his experiments. When he distanced himself from them, the substance regained its original white colour. There was no precedent that there could be any interaction between living beings and inanimate matter. Intrigued by the discovery, he thought of checking it in another adjoining laboratory where there were several aquariums with different types of fish. He proceeded in the same way and observed that when he was approaching the aquariums, the colour of the material slowly turned into an emerald green.
But after handling that substance without precaution, he observed that not only did it change colour, but so did the skin on his hands. He was startled and thought he was undergoing some kind of transformation, but he was able to remain calm. He thought then that he had to know why the substance was undergoing these colour changes.
When he tried to put his thoughts in order, unexpectedly and slowly he stopped controlling his reasoning capacity, and in his mind a kind of telepathic communication with something or someone was opening up. His surprise was great when he discovered that it was that substance that communicated with him and that it was that substance with its colour changes that was communicating with him and with all living beings around him and why not think about it, with the rest of the inert matter that surrounded him.

En sus investigaciones con animales, una mañana en el
laboratorio, observó que una sustancia que había elaborado destinada a
comprobar su efecto en la curación de la enfermedad de Roemer, cambiaba de
color a un tono carmesí cuando se acercaba a la jaula en la que tenía los
ratones que utilizaba en sus experimentos. Cuando se distanciaba de ellos, la
sustancia volvía a recuperar su color blanco original. No existía ningún
precedente de que pudiera haber alguna interacción entre seres vivos y la
materia inanimada. Intrigado por el descubrimiento, pensó en comprobarlo en
otro laboratorio contiguo en el que había varios acuarios con distintos tipos
de peces. Procedió de la misma forma y observó que, cuando se aproximaba a los
acuarios, el color del material se tornaba lentamente en un verde esmeralda.
Pero después de manipular aquella sustancia sin precaución,
observó que no solo ésta cambiaba de color, sino que también lo hacía la piel
de sus manos. Se sobresaltó y creyó que estaba sufriendo algún tipo de
transformación, pero pudo conservar la calma. Pensó entonces que tenía que saber
por qué la sustancia sufría esos cambios de color.
Cuando intentó poner en orden sus pensamientos, inesperada y
lentamente dejo de controlar su capacidad de razonamiento, y en su mente se iba
abriendo paso una especie comunicación telepática con algo o alguien. Su
sorpresa fue mayúscula cuando descubrió que era aquella sustancia la que se
comunicaba con él y que era aquella sustancia con sus cambios de color la
que estaba comunicándose con él y con
todos los seres vivos a su alrededor y ¿por qué no pensarlo?, con el resto de
la materia inerte que le rodeaba.
