Gideon, the young man I met at the hotel, asked me about these huge storms and, above all, he wanted to know the effects of fine Martian dust, which was frequently blown away by winds of more than 100 kilometers per hour, and which affected the important to the health of aliens from Earth. I confess that I did not want to be very explicit about it because the effects on human beings, which I had even seen in members of my own family, were devastating. So I told him that I hardly had news on the subject and that it affected only people with health problems causing serious disorders in them but that there had been very few cases. Those disorders that I did not want to name were dementia and a strange inflammation of the lymph nodes that destroyed the immune system and that days later caused death.
We were in the dining room of the hotel. Tasting the exquisite delicacies served by cyborgs barely allowed one to focus on anything other than the palate and the aromas from the dishes prepared in fully automated kitchens.
I tried to find out what difficulties I would face in my first year of artificial intelligence engineering, and I asked Gideon if there was a subject that I needed to spend more time and effort on.
"All the subjects, except one, are taught by robots. And it is precisely that, ‘Cognitive interaction between humans and robots’, which Professor Yoda is in charge of, which is the most difficult. In your place, I would spend most of my time on subjects with language-dense programming content".

Gideon, el joven que conocí en el hotel, me preguntó sobre
esas enormes tormentas y, sobre todo, quería conocer los efectos del fino polvo
marciano, que con frecuencia era arrastrado por vientos de más de cien
kilómetros por hora, y que afectaba de forma importante a la salud de los
alienígenas llegados de la Tierra. Confieso que no quise ser muy explícito al
respecto porque los efectos sobre los seres humanos, los cuales había podido
comprobar incluso en miembros de mi propia familia, eran devastadores. Así que
le comenté que apenas tenía noticias sobre el tema y que afectaba solo a personas
con problemas de salud provocando en ellas trastornos graves pero que se habían
producido muy pocos casos. Esos trastornos a los que no quise poner nombres,
eran la demencia y una extraña inflamación de los ganglios linfáticos que destruía
el sistema inmunológico y que días después provocaba la muerte.
Estábamos en el salón comedor del hotel. La degustación de los
exquisitos manjares servidos por ciborgs apenas permitían poder concentrarse en
algo que no fuera el paladar y los aromas procedentes de los platos elaborados
en unas cocinas completamente automatizadas.
Traté de saber las dificultades con las que me enfrentaría
en mi primer año de ingeniería en inteligencia artificial y le pregunté a
Gideon si existía alguna asignatura a la que tuviera que dedicarle más tiempo y
esfuerzo.
-Todas las asignaturas, excepto una, las imparten robots. Y
es precisamente esa, ‘Interacción cognitiva entre humanos y robots’, de la que
se encarga el profesor Yoda, la que entraña más dificultad. Yo en tu lugar, dedicaría
la mayor parte del tiempo a las asignaturas con contenido de programación densa
de lingualgoritmos.
